Kindergarten students started the week off by learning about what “republic” day means for our country and they were excited to see the school decorated with Turkish flags. 

Students were eager to learn from a story that our “republic” is a type of governing and people have the right to vote.   The story asks “What kind of leader would you choose, if you could?” Students thought about this and then set up and organized an election.  Votes, a ballot box and a counting system was used. Students learned that voting is a given right and we have a responsibility of choosing and making a decision.

Kindergarten students came to school for the ceremony wearing red and white, like the Turkish flag. After the Moment of Silence and the National Anthem, Gencay Metin, one of the yellow class teachers made a speech and emphasized and reminded them about the importance of the day.

Each class wrote their own poems about the republic and chorally recited them. Classes prepared posters while learning about Republic Day. Kindergarten students enjoyed parading with their posters and Turkish flag while singing Republic Day songs at the end of the ceremony.  As a momentum to the day, a traditional “29th October Republic Day” photograph was taken which will be displayed in our school corridor.
