We celebrated May 19, Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day throughout the week by remembering Ataturk and hosting important guests. We tried to understand why Ataturk put this much emphasis on the celebration of this day. We learned about the story of Bandırma Ferry. At the same time, our guests talked about the significance of sports in our lives. Our P.E. teacher from Uskudar American High School, Ugur Kaplakarslan built a parkour course in the gym. He reminded us of the connection between eating healthy, doing sports and being able to think in a healthy way. He talked about the importance given to sports by Ataturk.  He wanted us to try doing sports together in a fun way. We tried to pass the obstacles and finally reached the treasure at the end of the parkour. Our other guest was basketball coach Alper Koç.He talked about what Ataturk meant when he said “I like sportsmen who are smart, agile and also well-behaved.” He talked about the rules of basketball and afterwards we had a short match with our classmates. At the end of the game, we shared how it felt to win or lose.  The losing team kindly congratulated the winners. The winning team, on the other hand shared their best wishes with their friends from the losing team. We understood what Ataturk was expecting from sportsmen and ended the day by thanking our coach.
