During the week of February 20-24, 4th Graders created Geometric Abstract Art inspired by the artist Sonia Delaunay in their Art Lessons.  Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) was a Ukrainian-born French artist who was a pioneer in abstract art, and the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition in the Louvre.  She is known for her use of strong colors and bold geometric shapes in her paintings, clothing, and textile designs.  Using Delaunay’s artwork as inspiration, students created their own colorful geometric designs.  This lesson was an introductory lesson on “Shape” as an element of art.
