Grades 1,2,3 Field Trip to Istanbul Modern
We attended a workshop called “Is it a painting or a sculpture?” with our first grade students in Istanbul Modern. After having a short discussion about the workshop, art and sculptures, we examined the art works. We drew and painted our own pictures on special papers and we talked about the similarities and the differences of art and sculpture. We had the pleasure of art while we were learning content, size and space in means of arts and sculpture. We all had fun and learned a lot during the trip.
We attended a workshop called ”arts and poems” with our second grade students. The workshop started with a fun game with a target of teaching us to make connections between the verbal and visual image. We listened to some parts from Orhan Veli Kanık’s famous poem “İstanbul’u Dinliyorum Gözlerim Kapalı, “Ağaç” and Behçet Necatigil’s “Yıldızlarda Uyku”, analyse them and tried to figure out their connections with the visual images of the art works in the exhibition. We examined the photographs of Ara Güler, Naile Akıncı’s photograph exhibition called “Eyüp”, Jennifer Steinkamp’s exhibition called “Dikkat Çekici 1, 5, 6”. We enjoyed creating an art work.
We attended a workshop called “My Dream Tree” with our third grade students. In the exhibition, we examined the art works about trees and the nature and learned a lot about these. Then, we talked about the variety of living things in our own environment. Throughout our discussion, we focused on the trees and gathered information about the kinds of trees according to the climate and the place where we live. We also examined the young trees chosen specially for us. In the second session of the workshop, we imagined a grown-up tree by looking at a young tree and visualised it. We had great fun while we were creating great art works of what we had seen and learned.
