To celebrate the Chinese holiday, 1st grade students learned about Chinese New Year in their English lessons. In order to make them more culturally aware, our students first watched a video about Chinese New Year traditions- they even learned how to say “Happy New Year” in Chinese! Afterwards, we discussed similarities and differences between Turkish Bayrams and Chinese New Year traditions. Moreover, they have designed their own red packets with a picture of a dog, to represent 2018 Year of the Dog.
