On February 21st and 22nd Üsküdar SEV hosted over 330 advisors and students from over 19 different schools from all over Turkey for the 5th annual SEV Junior Model United Nations Conference.  The theme of the event was Diversity: Promoting an Inclusive Society.  In the opening ceremony keynote speaker Erdem Yörük, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Koç University, spoke persuasively about the need for inclusion and the importance of nurturing a cosmopolitan society.

Üsküdar SEV fielded two teams of delegates who served on all 11 committees in the conference.  The committees were chaired by high school students from both SEV American College and Üsküdar American Academy.  As a completely student-led event, JMUN is a wonderful leadership opportunity for all involved.

This year’s conference was impressive in both the number and quality of the resolutions written and the seriousness that the delegates, admins, chairs and deputy chairs brought to their jobs.  In addition, the students had much fun within the committees with various ice-breakers and on Friday, all involved participated in a pizza party to cap the day’s events.  At the end of the conference many student delegates commented that they looked forward to a greater involvement with JMUN.
